Fair Winds and
Following Seas — we'll help you
get there.

Career transition consulting for U.S. military service members and veterans. Founded by a Navy IT2 who walked the same path you're walking — and built this so you don't have to walk it alone.

Brooklyn-raised, Navy-trained,
built for what comes next.

I'm Peta Gaye — a Jamaican-born, Brooklyn-raised U.S. citizen who spent seven years in the United States Navy as an Information Technician Second Class. I served aboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) and with Military Sealift Command, and I left the Navy in April 2023 ready for what I thought would be the easy part: civilian life.

It wasn't easy. Like a lot of veterans, I discovered the hard way that a strong service record doesn't translate itself onto a civilian resume. Recruiters didn't understand my rate. Employers didn't know what an IT2 actually did. The job hunt was longer, harder, and lonelier than anyone had warned me it would be.

"I built Morris & Mission so no sailor — no service member — has to feel as lost as I did walking off base for the last time."

That's the mission. I help transitioning service members and veterans translate their experience, find roles that actually fit, and step into the civilian chapter with a plan, not a prayer. The Navy gave me a farewell — fair winds and following seas. My job is to help you get there.

My Approach

The Morris Method

A three-phase system that turns the chaos of transition into a focused operation.

  • Chart A custom roadmap built around your goals — not the cookie-cutter advice that fails half the veterans who follow it.
  • Craft A resume, LinkedIn, and personal story sharp enough that recruiters reach out to you — instead of you chasing them.
  • Close Interviews you walk into ready, offers that match what your service is actually worth, and a final yes that feels earned.

The mission so far

Seven years. Two commands.
One mission continues.

From the flight deck of the Truman in Souda Bay to the unsung work of Military Sealift Command, my service taught me what readiness, resilience, and real teamwork look like. Now I'm bringing that same standard to your transition.

What we do

A complete transition toolkit —
tailored to your next mission.

01 / Strategy

Career Transition Roadmap

One-on-one strategy sessions to clarify your goals, identify civilian career paths that match your skills, and build a phased plan from your final muster to your first civilian paycheck.

02 / Resume

Military-to-Civilian Resume Translation

We rewrite your experience in language civilian recruiters actually understand. No buzzwords, no jargon — just a resume that gets you past the screen and into the interview.

03 / Tech

IT & Cybersecurity Career Pathway

For service members eyeing tech: certification roadmaps, clearance-to-civilian translation, and direct guidance from a former Navy IT2 who's lived this exact pivot.

04 / Interview

Interview & Salary Negotiation Coaching

Mock interviews, story-mining sessions, and salary negotiation playbooks built specifically for veterans entering civilian markets — so you stop leaving money and offers on the table.

05 / LinkedIn

LinkedIn Optimization

A complete profile rebuild — headline, summary, experience, and keyword strategy — designed to attract recruiters and hiring managers in your target industry.

06 / Federal

Federal Job & USAJOBS Navigation

The federal hiring system is its own language. We decode KSAs, build veteran-preference-eligible packages, and help you compete for GS roles where your service is an asset.

Why Morris & Mission

A consultant who's
actually been there.

The veteran services space is full of well-meaning people who never wore the uniform — or who served thirty years ago and forgot how brutal the first six months out can be. Here's what makes this different.

  • i.
I've lived the transition you're living.
Seven years active duty. Discharged April 2023. The pain points are fresh — and so are the strategies that actually work in today's hiring market.
  • ii.
    Tech-fluent guidance for a tech-driven workforce.
As a former IT2, I help veterans pivot into IT, cybersecurity, and cleared roles where military experience is an asset, not a liability. Few transition consultants can credibly do this.
  • iii.
    DMV-based, federally fluent.
Serving the DC, Maryland, and Virginia corridor — home to the Pentagon, Fort Meade, Fort Belvoir, Quantico, and the nation's densest concentration of federal contractors and cleared roles. Local enough to navigate the federal market, virtual enough to serve veterans nationwide.
  • iv.
    Representation that matters.
A Black, Caribbean-American woman veteran working in a space dominated by other voices. If you've felt unseen, you'll be seen here.
Who we serve

Is this you?

i.
Active Duty, Separating Soon
You're inside 12 months of your separation date and the TAP class wasn't enough. Let's build a real plan.
ii.
Recently Separated
DD-214 in hand, applications going nowhere, motivation slipping. We'll get the search moving again.
iii.
Tech-Curious Veterans
You're considering IT, cybersecurity, or a cleared role. Get a roadmap from someone who walked this exact path.
iv.
Military Spouses
Your career took the back seat to PCS orders. Time to build a path that finally moves with you, not around you.
Beyond the uniform

You don't need a DD-214 to work with us.

Veterans are our heart and our priority — but the truth is, career transitions are hard for everyone. The same Morris Method that helps a sailor land a six-figure cyber role works just as well for a corporate manager pivoting industries, a federal employee moving to the private sector, or a first responder writing the next chapter.

If you've ever felt stuck, overlooked, or unsure how to translate your experience into your next opportunity — you're in the right place.

"The discipline that built my Navy career is the same discipline that builds yours — uniform or not."
i.
Career Changers
Pivoting industries, leaving a long-time employer, or finally chasing the role you actually want? We'll translate what you have into where you're going.
ii.
Federal Employees
Moving from government to private sector — or vice versa. We know both languages and how to build a resume that works for either side.
iii.
First Responders
Police, fire, EMS — public servants leaving the badge. Your skills carry weight in countless industries; let's help the rest of the world see it.
iv.
Returning to Work
Coming back after caregiving, raising a family, or any career gap. Gaps don't disqualify you — they just need a smart story behind them.
v.
Early Career & Grads
Targeting federal roles, defense contractors, or cleared positions in the DMV? Start your career on the right runway, with the right resume.
vi.
Anyone Stuck in the Search
Applications going nowhere. Interviews that don't convert. We diagnose what's broken and rebuild a search strategy that actually moves.
